because the next step required more effort than the value felt worth, whether the flow assumed a level of context the user did not yet have. I think about growth as a question of what is actually happening when someone interacts with a product, and what conditions would need to change for the outcome to be different — less a set of channels to optimise and more a cross-functional problem that lives in the product, the data, the messaging and the customer experience all at once. Outside of work I explored this further by building my own productivity tool, designing the architecture around how people translate intention into action and observing how small structural changes affected whether someone followed through or not.
