I'm a venture partner, four-time founder and government advisor who has spent two decades building startup ecosystems across three continents — as an operator, an investor, and a policy advisor. That rare tri-perspective shapes everything I do, including my upcoming book, We're Doing This Wrong: How to Build Entrepreneur Ecosystems That Actually Work (2026), which exposes the billions wasted each year on "innovation theatre" and sets out a systematic framework for ecosystems that put entrepreneur success ahead of institutional convenience. Today at SVV(Sure Valley Ventures), I lead our AI investment teams in the UK and Ireland where we work really hard to find the best and brightest early-stage founders to back. As a firm of former founders turned investors, we've been backing Ai for nearly a decade now so we're now riding some bandwagon like other investors. We back the very best of vertical-specific applications of AI, as well as those building the latest and greatest AI engineering and tooling. Previously I founded Republic of Work, the largest startup hub in my home city of Cork, and have guided over 1,500 startups through formation, funding and growth. I also act as VC in Residence at University College Cork. I've worked with NVIDIA, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Meta on startup engagement strategy, and I serve as a Ministerial appointment on Ireland's Enterprise Digital Advisory Forum and the SME Growth and Entrepreneurship Taskforce, helping shape national entrepreneurship and technology policy. Previously I was Group CMO at Dogpatch Labs, one of Europe's leading innovation hubs, and previously drove growth at startups including com and Trustev. I'm a founding council member of Scale Ireland. I speak regularly on ecosystem building, formation-stage intervention, and the architectural principles that separate thriving startup economies from expensive failures.
